AI + DePIN: a clean explanation

Decentralized compute is the cleanest crossover bet in the cycle. Here's how the stack actually works.

DePIN means decentralized physical infrastructure networks: projects that pay people in tokens to provide real-world resources like compute, storage, wireless coverage or sensors.

Why AI fits

AI training and inference need large amounts of GPU compute. DePIN compute networks aim to aggregate idle or underused hardware and rent it out at lower prices than centralized clouds.

The stack

  • Hardware providers: individuals and data centers contributing GPUs.
  • Coordination layer: the network that matches jobs with providers and verifies work.
  • Payments and incentives: tokens that pay providers and, in some designs, reward early supply.
  • Applications: model hosting, rendering, inference APIs and agent platforms.

What to look for

  • Real paying demand, not only token incentives.
  • Utilization of supply: how much capacity is actually rented.
  • Reliability and verification of work.
  • Revenue relative to token emissions.

The theme is early and volatile. Not financial advice.
